چکیده

This paper proposes an efficient method for the production of high quality radiosity solutions which makes use of the a-priori knowledge of the dynamic properties of the scene in order to exploit temporal coherence. The method is based on a two-pass strategy that provides user-control on the final frame quality. In the first pass, it computes a coarse global solution of the radiosities along a time interval and then, in the second pass, it performs a frame-to-frame incremental gathering step using hardware graphics accelerators. The frame production computing cost is thus reduced because the method takes advantage of frame-to-frame coherence by identifying the changes produced by dynamic objects, and by decoupling them from computations that remain unchanged. The input data is a dynamic model of the environment through a period of time corresponding to the same camera recording. The method proceeds by incrementally updating two data structures: a space-time hierarchical radiosity solution for a given interval of time, and a hierarchical tree of textures representing

Animating radiosity environments through the Multi-Frame Lighting Method

Realistic rendering animation is known to be an expensive processing task when physically based global illumination methods are used in order to improve illumination details. This paper presents the Multi-Frame Lighting Method, an efficient algorithm to compute animations in radiosity environments. The method, based on global Monte Carlo techniques, performs the lighting simulation of groups of...

Combining light animation with obscurances for glossy environments

Obscurances is a powerful technique that approximates indirect global illumination in a much faster way than classic methods as radiosity or path tracing. In this method, the local environment of a point or a patch is sampled to estimate the amount of occlusion that surrounds it. Fine effects as color reflection can be added and visually pleasant rendering of corners and soft shadows are easily...

Animating Frame-to-Frame Coherent Line Drawings for Illustrative Purposes

We present a system for rendering 3D animations in the style of line drawings. We use a highly parameterized line model in order to determine the appearance of a line. This model allows us to render characteristic line deviations that remain—in contrast to existing non-photorealistic rendering systems—frame coherent. Other inconsistencies which result from intersection and visibility changes du...

A new mathematical development for radiosity animation with Galerkin method

Combining animation and global illumination constitutes a real challenge in computer graphics, especially when light sources move in a complex scene because the entire illumination has to be recomputed. This paper introduces a new algorithm, based on the Galerkin method, which efficiently computes animation sequence with any moving surface -even light source. For each new frame, we take into ac...

Reuse of Paths in Final Gathering Step with Moving Light Sources

In this paper we extend our previous result on reusing shooting paths when dealing with moving light sources in radiosity to the final gathering step algorithm, which combines a shooting solution and a gathering step. Paths are reused for each frame in both shooting and gathering steps, obtaining a noticeable reduction of cost in the computation of the solutions for every frame. Moreover, the c...
